Desai studied at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he earned both a master’s degree in computer science and an MBA.

The combination of technical and business education has been a recurring feature of his career, which has involved both product engineering and senior operational leadership.

What Will Desai Do at Meta?

At Meta, Desai will lead the newly established enterprise unit responsible for bringing the company’s AI capabilities to businesses and developers.

According to Zuckerberg, Meta Enterprise Platform will combine several of Meta’s existing strengths, including AI models, agents, computing infrastructure and its experience working with businesses.

The initial portfolio is expected to include products and services such as Muse Agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code.

The broader objective is to make Meta’s AI technology usable in enterprise environments rather than limiting its applications to consumer-facing products.

Why Meta Is Building an Enterprise AI Business

Enterprise AI has become a major area of competition among technology companies as businesses look to use AI for software development, customer interaction, automation and decision-making.

Meta already operates large-scale AI infrastructure and develops its own AI models. Its advertising business also gives the company extensive experience working with businesses.

The new enterprise platform is intended to bring those capabilities together into products that companies and developers can use directly.

Zuckerberg said the initiative would build on Meta’s AI models, agents, infrastructure and relationships with businesses.

Desai’s Vision for Enterprise AI

In a LinkedIn post announcing his move, Desai said his role would involve translating Meta’s AI capabilities into products for businesses and developers.

He argued that the next phase of AI adoption could change how companies operate, rather than simply adding AI tools to existing processes.

According to Desai, businesses could redesign workflows involving product development, customer engagement, decision-making and day-to-day operations.

He described the transition as a shift in how companies innovate, sell and serve customers.

Desai Says Meta Has a Distinct AI Advantage

Desai also highlighted Meta’s combination of AI models, infrastructure and agents as a potential advantage in the enterprise market.

He pointed to Meta’s existing business ecosystem, including its relationships with millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses, as another asset.

His argument is that combining these capabilities could allow Meta to create an enterprise platform rather than offering AI as a collection of standalone tools.

Zuckerberg similarly pointed to Desai’s experience across AI, infrastructure, business applications and security as reasons for bringing him into the new role.

From Enterprise Software to Meta AI

Desai’s appointment marks another step in his career across major technology platforms.

His experience spans cybersecurity at Symantec, emerging technologies at EMC, enterprise applications and AI at ServiceNow, cloud and product leadership at Cloudflare, and executive leadership at MongoDB.

At Meta, that background will now be applied to a different challenge: turning the company’s large-scale AI capabilities into an enterprise business.

The newly created Meta Enterprise Platform will therefore be closely tied to Meta’s broader AI strategy, with Desai reporting directly to Zuckerberg as the company seeks to expand its AI business beyond consumer applications.
