What is a SIP?

A Systematic Investment Plan is a way to invest a fixed amount regularly, commonly in a mutual fund. A SIP is an investment method, not a separate asset or a guaranteed-return product.

Enter your monthly contribution, an assumed annual return and the investment period. You can also choose lump-sum mode to illustrate the compound growth of a single initial investment.

How this calculator works

The annual percentage is treated as an effective annual return. The equivalent monthly rate is:

r = (1 + annual return ÷ 100)1/12 − 1

For payments at the end of each month, the projected value is:

FV = P × [(1 + r)n − 1] ÷ r

For beginning-of-month payments, multiply this result by (1 + r). Here, P is the monthly contribution and n is the number of months. At 0% return, the value equals total contributions.

Lump-sum mode uses FV = L × (1 + annual return ÷ 100)years, where L is the initial investment. Other calculators may use annual return ÷ 12 as their monthly rate, which produces different projections.

Frequently asked questions

Are SIP returns guaranteed?

No. Returns depend on the underlying investments and market performance. The calculator uses your assumptions and does not predict future returns.

Can I use this for retirement planning?

You can explore possible accumulation scenarios. A complete retirement plan also needs to account for inflation, expenses, taxes, withdrawals and changing investment returns.

Does this include annual SIP increases?

No. Monthly SIP mode assumes an unchanged contribution throughout the selected period.

Why does investment timing affect the result?

A beginning-of-month contribution is invested for one month longer than an end-of-month contribution. This changes the projected growth or loss.

Does this include inflation, taxes and fees?

No. The results are nominal projections before those adjustments. Purchasing power and the amount you receive after costs may be lower.
