Why reports show two different profit figures
NTPC’s official announcement puts total consolidated profit after tax at approximately ₹7,351 crore, up 40.68% from ₹5,225 crore a year earlier.
That differs from the ₹7,030 crore attributable-to-shareholders figure used in the headline. Consolidated accounts distinguish the profit belonging to the parent company’s shareholders from the portion attributable to non-controlling interests.
The two figures should therefore not be used interchangeably or compared against different year-earlier measures.

Add INDYASTORY on GoogleSubsidiary earnings strengthen group performance
NTPC said subsidiary-company profits increased to ₹1,990 crore from ₹1,149 crore, a rise of approximately 73%.
On a standalone basis, quarterly profit after tax increased to about ₹5,320 crore from ₹4,653 crore. The company attributed the standalone improvement primarily to higher generation and better operating efficiency.
Standalone results describe NTPC’s own financial performance, while consolidated results incorporate the wider group. Looking at both helps distinguish parent-company earnings growth from the contribution of group businesses.

Add INDYASTORY on Google₹3 interim dividend: record date and payment schedule
The board declared a ₹3-per-share interim dividend, equivalent to 30% of each share’s ₹10 face value.
| Dividend detail | Announcement |
|---|---|
| Dividend | ₹3 per equity share |
| Financial year | 2026–27 |
| Type | First interim dividend |
| Record date | November 6, 2026 |
| Payment commencement | November 25, 2026 |
The company’s board-meeting communication states that payment will begin from November 25 within the statutory period. This is a commencement date, rather than a promise that every shareholder will receive the money that day.
An eligible holding of 100 shares would receive ₹300 before any applicable tax deduction; 500 shares would receive ₹1,500.
The declared 30% is calculated on face value. It does not mean a 30% return on the stock’s market price.
What investors should examine next
The quarter combined higher revenue, faster profit growth and a small improvement in EBITDA margin.
Future comparisons should continue to distinguish shareholder-attributable profit from total group profit. Cash generation, capital expenditure and the sustainability of subsidiary earnings will also help assess whether the improvement continues beyond a single quarter.
The dividend provides a defined cash distribution for eligible shareholders, but it should be considered alongside the company’s financial performance and investment requirements.
