Lauria appeared in Season 2, Episode 2 of 30 Rock, titled “Jack Gets in the Game.” The episode revolves around Jack Donaghy, played by Alec Baldwin, and his rivalry with Devon Banks, portrayed by Will Arnett.
The episode’s story involves the two NBC executives competing for influence as they look toward the future leadership of the fictional GE empire. During a football game, Jack is visibly struggling physically, giving Devon an opportunity to tease him about his recent heart attack.
Jack responds by turning the situation around.
Lauria plays Winthrop, a young athlete whom Jack calls over after Devon claims he can pin him. The joke quickly becomes physical as Winthrop wrestles Devon and pins him to the ground.
It was only a short appearance, but it became an early television credit for an actor who would go on to build a substantial career.
The role came together incredibly quickly
Lauria later recalled that he had very little time to prepare for the job.
According to an interview with Backstage, he auditioned toward the end of the week and learned on Sunday that he had booked the part. He was scheduled to return to New York on Monday and film the scene the following day.
The speed of the process meant Lauria had almost no time to settle into what was his first primetime television experience.
The young actor also discovered another surprise once he arrived on set: a change to the script meant he would have to appear shirtless during the football sequence.
For someone making his primetime debut, the circumstances were hardly routine.

He recalled traveling by bus and train before arriving for the shoot. Unfamiliar with the realities of a television production, he even ate two Egg McMuffin-style breakfast sandwiches during the journey because he did not yet know about the food and catering available on a professional set.
The day became even more memorable when he found himself working alongside established stars Baldwin and Arnett.
During filming, Lauria struggled with one of his lines. Baldwin reportedly encouraged the young actor to get it right, telling him that he had a long career ahead of him and needed to push through the mistake.
The moment could easily have been intimidating. Instead, it became part of Lauria’s introduction to professional television acting.
