PUNE, INDIA — The investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal near Lohagad Fort has taken a new turn after police questioned a young man who reportedly claimed he had prior knowledge of discussions between the two accused but advised them against carrying out any harmful act.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the individual is a friend and classmate of one of the accused, Chetan Chaudhary. Investigators are examining his statements as they continue to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to Agarwal’s death on June 18.
Police Examine New Testimony
Sources indicate that the friend allegedly became aware of conversations involving Chaudhary and co-accused Siya Goyal before the incident. He reportedly told investigators that he discouraged both individuals from taking any action against Agarwal and did not accompany them during their visit to Lohagad Fort.
Authorities are verifying the details of his account through witness statements, digital records, and other evidence collected during the probe.
Police sources further claim that Chaudhary met the friend after the incident, while Goyal is also believed to have communicated with him afterward. Investigators are now reviewing the nature and timing of those interactions.
Background of the Case
The case began after Agarwal died following a fall from Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18. What was initially treated as a possible accident later became the subject of a murder investigation after police alleged that the incident may have been planned.
The investigation has attracted significant public attention across Maharashtra, with authorities examining phone records, digital communications, witness statements, and other material evidence.
It is important to note that the allegations against the accused remain under investigation and have yet to be tested in court.
Judicial Proceedings Continue
A Pune court recently sent Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary to judicial custody until July 16. Prosecutors had sought additional police custody, arguing that certain digital communications required further examination.
The defence opposed the request, stating that investigators had already been given adequate time for custodial interrogation. The court subsequently ordered judicial custody while the investigation continues.
Fast-Track Trial Approved
Given the public interest surrounding the case, the Maharashtra government has approved proceedings through a fast-track court. Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member Ujjwal Nikam has been appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor.
Legal experts say the move is expected to accelerate court proceedings while ensuring a structured examination of evidence presented by both sides.
Focus Turns to Digital Evidence
Investigators are now placing significant emphasis on electronic communications and witness testimonies as they work to establish a clear timeline. Officials have not released complete details regarding the digital evidence being examined.
Police have stated that the inquiry remains active and that all relevant leads are being pursued. Further developments are expected as forensic analysis and witness questioning continue.
As the case progresses, authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the legal process to determine the facts based on evidence presented before the court.
