Shark Tank India Season 4, Episode 09: “Chhooth Rahi Hai Train,” Says Kunal—But Which Pitcher Finally Boards It?

When it comes to Shark Tank, every pitch feels like a journey. Some founders board the train with confidence, while others are left behind at the station. Today’s episode, a National Startup Day special, elevated this concept with a showdown between two brands competing in the green living industry. The Sharks had to decide which brand had what it takes to move forward.

The Sharks for today’s episode were:

  • Namita Thapar – Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals

  • Vineeta Singh – CEO of Sugar Cosmetics

  • Kunal Bahl – Founder of Snapdeal and Titan Capital

  • Peyush Bansal – CEO of Lenskart

  • Anupam Mittal – Founder of Shaadi.com

In this episode, the heat was on as two innovative brands went head-to-head in a high-stakes competition. Both were determined to revolutionize the green living industry. Here’s a look at their pitches.

The first pitch came from Annu Grover, founder of Nurturing Green. With over 13 years of experience in the industry, Annu started with a bold gesture—handing out dead bouquets to the Sharks to highlight why plants are a more sustainable gift. His inspiration stemmed from a personal experience when he sent his mother a bouquet from the US, only to return home and find it discarded.

Nurturing Green focuses on personalized plant care, offering services like WhatsApp plant parenting videos and a lifetime warranty, allowing plants to be replaced at 50% of the purchase price. Initially targeting the gifting category, the brand has now expanded into home décor and gardening solutions.

Founder Annu Grover asked for ₹1 crore in exchange for 1% equity. The Sharks admired the brand’s journey and quality, with Kunal Bahl noting his prior acquaintance with Annu and commending his consistent updates. However, as the buzzer rang, the decision was postponed until the next pitch.

Kyari was presented by the dynamic brother duo Saksham Jain and Aagam Choudhary. Launched in 2022, this brand processes over 2,000 orders daily and aims to make plant care seamless. Their standout innovation includes a water meter indicating when plants need watering and self-watering planters requiring attention only once a week. They impressed the Sharks with personalized planters featuring each Shark’s brand logo—a thoughtful touch that stood out.

The brothers sought ₹80 lakh for 0.8% equity. Their energy and vision sparked interest, but concerns about their business model and competition with Nurturing Green arose. When Anupam Mittal asked, “Why should I choose you over Nurturing Green?” the room grew tense.

The Match-Off DecisionWith both pitches complete, the Sharks faced a tough choice. Nurturing Green brought experience and quality, while Kyari shone with innovation and passion.

For Nurturing Green, scalability questions arose, but Annu’s emotional connection to his brand left an impression. Confidently, Annu declared, “Obviously me,” when asked who would win.

For Kyari, the Sharks admired their hunger and creativity but raised concerns about their financial structure. Intense negotiations followed, and offers were made to both brands.

Who Boarded the Train? The episode ended on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wondering who secured the deal. Did Nurturing Green’s years of experience clinch the investment, or did Kyari’s fresh approach and innovation win the day?
