Mumbai:

A man was arrested in Maharashtra's Thane early this morning for allegedly attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his home. The accused, identified as Mohammed Aliyan, was apprehended near the Hiranandani Estate in Kasarvadavali, about 35 kilometers from Saif's Bandra residence.

Aliyan initially gave the false name Vijay Das to avoid being caught. He had previously worked as a housekeeping staff at a bar in Thane.

Saif Ali Khan suffered multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck and near his spine, after the intruder entered his upscale Bandra home and attacked him in the early hours of Thursday.

The 54-year-old actor, stabbed six times, was rushed to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw, where he underwent emergency surgery. A 2.5-inch blade fragment was removed from his spine during a five-hour surgery. Doctors confirmed on Friday that he is recovering well.

Suspects Apprehended

Earlier on Saturday, a suspect identified as 31-year-old Aakash Kailash Kannojia from Mumbai was detained at Chhattisgarh's Durg railway station.

Officials said he was apprehended aboard the Mumbai-Howrah Jnaneswari Express following a tip from the Mumbai Police. Around 2 p.m., when the train reached Durg, the suspect deboarded from the general compartment and was immediately taken into custody. Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials confirmed he was traveling without a ticket and bore a resemblance to the suspect in the stabbing case.

Attack at Saif Ali Khan's Bandra Residence

The attack occurred while Saif was with his family—his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur—at their residence in the 12-story apartment building, Satguru Sharan, in Bandra.

Eliyama Philip, a nurse caring for Jeh, and another staff member were also injured. In her statement to the police, Ms. Philip said she was the first to spot the intruder, estimated to be between 35-40 years old, in Saif's 11th-floor apartment.

Ms. Philip reported that the knife-wielding attacker demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore. She recounted being woken by noises around 2 a.m., three hours after putting Jeh to bed. Initially assuming it was Kareena Kapoor Khan checking on Jeh, she noticed the bathroom door ajar and the light on.

Upon realizing something was amiss, she saw a man emerging from the bathroom and entering Jeh's room. When she confronted him, the attacker threatened her, saying in Hindi, "Don’t make any noise; nobody will go out."

As she tried to protect Jeh, the man attacked her with a wooden stick and a long Hexa blade, causing injuries to her wrists and left hand. He then demanded money, specifically ₹1 crore.

Saif Ali Khan Confronts the Intruder

Hearing Ms. Philip's screams, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan rushed out. When Saif confronted the intruder, he was attacked with a wooden object and the Hexa blade. Saif managed to escape, and the family retreated to the upper floor of their home.

The intruder eventually fled the scene. Police investigations revealed no signs of forced entry or CCTV footage capturing the intruder entering the premises before the attack.

Sources indicated the intruder had likely scaled an adjacent compound wall and used the rear stairs to reach the apartment. Familiar with the building’s layout, he accessed the actor's home through the fire escape.
