BJP candidate from New Delhi to file a complaint against Kejriwal.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi alleged on Sunday that Arvind Kejriwal's car was attacked by "goons of the BJP" during campaigning in the New Delhi Assembly seat. Atishi said, "Yesterday in New Delhi, an attack was carried out on Arvind Kejriwal’s car inside the New Delhi Assembly. The attack was perpetrated by BJP goons. Upon closer observation, one name stands out—'Shanky,' a Vice President of the BJP, who is often seen putting up posters of Pravesh Verma in his area and is frequently in his company. During campaigns, Shanky stays closely associated with Pravesh Verma."
Atishi further claimed that Shanky, also known as Rahul, has a criminal background, with several pending cases against him, including charges under the Arms Act, attempted murder, assault, and robbery. She said Shanky has cases registered against him at both the Shakarpur and Paharganj Police Stations.
Another individual involved in the attack was Rohit Tyagi, who Atishi claimed is also a close ally of Pravesh Verma. She added that Tyagi, too, has a criminal record, with charges related to theft and attempted murder during theft.
BJP's Response:
Hitting back at Atishi's allegations, BJP candidate Pravesh Verma stated that Kejriwal's car hit three youths who wanted to speak to him. Verma claimed the youths came in front of Kejriwal's vehicle, and the driver applied the brakes but moved the car when signaled by Kejriwal. He said the youths were "hit" by the vehicle, and videos of the incident filmed by locals showed the three youths being struck.
Verma questioned whether Kejriwal would attempt to run over local youth simply because they asked him about jobs, arguing that the youths were New Delhi residents and voters, not "goons." He suggested that Kejriwal was agitated because people were questioning him about unfulfilled promises.
Kejriwal is running against Verma in the New Delhi constituency for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5. The BJP, out of power in Delhi since 1998, has been intensifying its efforts to challenge the AAP, which has ruled the city since 2015.
In a press conference, Atishi also released photos of Shanky and Rohit Tyagi, accusing them of being BJP members and close allies of Parvesh Verma.
