Nissan to Launch New Midsize SUV as Terrano Successor, Based on Next-Gen Duster Platform
INDIA – As part of its ambitious product strategy for the Indian market, Nissan has confirmed plans to introduce a new midsize SUV, following the launch of its upcoming Triber-based compact MPV. This SUV will act as a spiritual successor to the Nissan Terrano, which was discontinued several years ago.
The upcoming SUV will be one of four new models Nissan is planning to bring to India over the next two years, signaling the brand’s intention to strengthen its local portfolio.
Shared Platform with Next-Gen Renault Duster
The new midsize SUV will be built on the same CMF-B+ platform as the next-generation Renault Duster, thanks to the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s shared development strategy. This means the SUV is likely to share powertrain options and key mechanical components with the Duster, including hybrid and petrol engine variants designed to meet future emissions and efficiency standards.
The CMF-B+ architecture offers improved safety, advanced features, and the flexibility to accommodate modern drivetrain technologies. This makes it a strong foundation for Nissan to build a competitive SUV in the fiercely contested midsize segment.
Terrano’s Legacy, Reimagined
While the new model won’t carry the Terrano nameplate, it is being positioned as a modern interpretation of what the Terrano once represented—a rugged yet city-friendly SUV offering space, practicality, and reliability. The brand aims to capitalize on the growing demand for feature-rich, tech-savvy midsize SUVs among Indian consumers.
Nissan is expected to unveil the model sometime in 2026, following the rollout of its compact MPV and ahead of the complete four-model lineup slated for launch by 2027.
